IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A man died and two women were hurt in a crash on Friday in Iredell County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers were called on Friday at about 9:30 p.m. to NC Highway 901 near Jennings Road.

Investigators said a 2013 Toyota Tacoma was driving on Highway 901 when it ran off the road and hit a mailbox. It then crossed back over the road, ran off the other side, slammed into a large brick sign and rolled over.

A passenger in the truck, Robert Douglas Shumate, 60, of Union Grove, died at the scene. The truck’s driver, 27-year-old Cheyanna Pardue, of Hamptonville, and another woman who was a passenger were hurt in the crash.

Union Grove Fire and Rescue posted on Facebook saying the crash happened in the station’s parking lot. In a later post, the fire department said the sign that was destroyed was theirs.

Investigators said they believe alcohol impairment contributed to the crash. Authorities charged Pardue with driving while impaired, driving while license revoked and a seatbelt violation.

Troopers said more charges are pending.
