CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Arizona lottery officials will release the name of the state's Powerball winner. Channel 9 learned the winner will split the prize with someone in Missouri.
The winning numbers for the Powerball jackpot are: 5, 23, 16, 22, 29. The Powerball is 6.
The biggest winner in the Carolinas is holding a $2 million ticket from somewhere in South Carolina.
If you bought a ticket for the record-breaking $580 million Powerball jackpot and didn't win, you still helped lots of children in North Carolina.
While 60 percent of all ticket sales go to the jackpot, a quarter makes it to state governments. A small percentage goes to the stores selling the tickets.
"A lot of people buying, it's good business for our store, for people buying, and the North Carolina lottery education too," said Gargi Shah, a manager at 7-Eleven.
Since this jackpot cycle started on Oct. 6, around $12 million has gone to North Carolina education, well worth the ticket price to some.
"Considering I have five of them still in school -- very much so," John Nance said.
"Anything that'll help North Carolina, Charlotte especially," Andrew Espiritu said.
Both players said if they won they would take the lump sum payout, taking the $550 million jackpot down to $360 million. You'd lose about $115 million to state and federal taxes and take home about $245 million.
"Actually, I'm fortunate," Nance said. "I have a good job that pays well so [I'd] probably give a lot of it away. I've got some family that's been out of work for a while."
