CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s a topic that has been on many people’s minds: will Halloween happen this year?
The holiday is just over six weeks away, and on Thursday, Channel 9′s Joe Bruno wanted to know what state officials had to say about it happening this year.
“This is a question on the minds of a lot of parents of kindergartners and fifth graders. Will Halloween be able to happen this year with the current state of our numbers in North Carolina?” Bruno asked.

“So, Halloween will be able to happen, but we’ll need additional safety protocols," DHHS Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen responded. "My public health team is working on those right now, so stay tuned for additional guidance in the next couple of weeks.”
On Tuesday, the same topic was brought up during the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners meeting.
“We’re working on that right now," said Mecklenburg County Health Director Gibbie Harris. "You know the challenge is we don’t know what the next three to four weeks will look like and if schools open up again, and that may impact the recommendations around this, but we’re going ahead and working on it because we know there are a lot of people that are asking and a lot of people that are already planning.”
Harris said they should have recommendations out fairly soon.
