Who are the highest-paid employees in NC state government?

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Business Journal has compiled the annual salaries for more than 85,000 North Carolina state government employees, over 150 of whom are paid more than $200,000.

From psychiatrists to investment managers to transportation engineers, the state’s average annual salary was $54,177 in September. That average considers salary information for almost 68,000 employees whose annual salary is more than $25,000. Of those, 152 made $200,000 or more, and the state’s highest-paid employee, Valerie Hillings, director of the N.C. Museum of Art, made $317,000. Seventy-nine percent of the state’s employees who are paid more than $200,000 work in the medical and mental health fields.
