CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The 21 highest-paid employees at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools oversee operations for the entire district.
Among those in the top spots for 2021 are Earnest Winston, superintendent, and the district’s cabinet members, attorneys, department directors and the six learning community superintendents who are tasked with increasing instructional leadership support at the schools that fall within their individual learning community.
In February, the CMS school board approved a new contract for Winston that raised his salary 3% to $288,400 and extended his term through 2025.
The highest-paid employee for an individual school — a high school principal — takes the No. 22 spot. In total, 15 principals ranked among the 50 highest-paid CMS employees. For the entire district, 186 employees earned six-figure paychecks.
