CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Health-care jobs continue to reign supreme for offering workers the highest paychecks in the Charlotte metro area.
Of the seven jobs that pay local employees annual salaries of at least $200,000, six are in the medical sector: podiatrists, family medicine physicians, surgeons, pediatricians and general internal medicine physicians — the last of which have the highest overall local salary of $264,210.

Local chief executives are also among those who earn an annual $200,000 or more on average, taking home a salary of $230,000.
That information comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a unit of the U.S. Department of Labor. The BLS earlier this year released its annual Occupational Employment Statistics data, which includes employment and wage estimates for the nation as a whole, states and metropolitan and non-metro areas. The data covers the May 2019 time period.

The average annual salary of a Charlotte-area employee is $52,150, which is up from $51,000 in the previous year. That compares to $48,550 earned by the typical North Carolina worker and $44,380 in South Carolina. It is, however, lower than the $53,490 annual salary estimated for the average U.S. worker.
