North Carolina lawmakers approved the state budget later than usual, which included multiple tax law changes. Officials with the North Carolina Department of Revenue said the delayed legislative approval would cause a lag in processing refunds. The agency posted more information and a video about the process on its website here.
NCDOR officials told Stoogenke the agency started sending refunds out this week.

You could also experience a delay if you made a mistake on your tax return.
Some of the most common errors are:
- Forgetting to sign the return.
- Typos in your name, Social Security Number or bank account.
- Claiming dependents or the child tax credit incorrectly.
