The bad news? Charlotte came in well behind peer cities in the Southeast, including No. 1 Nashville, Tennessee, which posted a 270.9% rise in high-paying jobs, and Raleigh, with a 109.2% increase to rank No. 12.

The data was analyzed by Stessa, a real estate software firm. The company attributed the distribution of income growth, in part, to the location of growth industries.

“One field that may be contributing to the growth rate of high-paying jobs nationwide is tech: software developers and computer and information systems managers — both of which have faster growth rates than most other professions — currently combine for more than 1.9 million high-paying jobs,” the report says.
