Western Carolina student from Monroe dies in wreck

CULLOWHEE, N.C. — Western Carolina University students are pushing for a change after a woman from Monroe was killed in a car wreck.

Stephanie Deese was a student at Western Carolina.

Police said she was riding with another student near campus Sunday when he drove off the road and into a tree.

Students are asking people to sign a petition to add a guardrail to make the road safer.
