Channel 9 crews were the first on the scene at the Wendy’s on Sunset Road around 1:20 a.m.
A bullet hole could be clearly seen on the right side of a red Dodge Charger.
Investigators told Channel 9 two female customers from Florida had gone through the drive-thru and were waiting for their food in the parking lot. A female employee brought the food out to them, but the customers were upset about how long it took to get their order, and the women started fighting.
That's when police said a male employee, 22-year-old Xavier McCree, came out and shot at the car with a shotgun.
Nobody was hurt but officers took McCree into custody and seized the weapon.
"You're looking to get your food, not shot at by somebody, especially an employee," resident Tim Grate said.
He has been charged with discharging a firearm within city limits.
"It’s a home issue,” said neighbor Pat Miller. “The only time a child acts irresponsible is if they have irresponsible parents or guidance. We give them leeway to think it’s OK and that’s what they gonna do."
McCree is no longer employed at the restaurant.
He is out of jail and is supposed to be in court in August.
"The whole idea of people using guns to solve problems is just ridiculous," resident Dawn Hardy said.
Records show McCree was charged once before in 2015 with simple assault, but those charges were dismissed because the alleged victim failed to testify.
Quint Graham, the president and CEO of Carolina Restaurant Group, released the following statement:
"The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority, and we are very grateful that no one was injured. In keeping with our intent to provide a safe environment, our employees are not permitted to bring firearms onto the property. The person involved in this situation will no longer be employed by us. This is an isolated incident, and we will continue to work with law enforcement on the investigation."
