‘We owe him our life’: NC deputy saves sleeping family from massive house fire

McDowell County house fire

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina deputy saved a family after their home caught fire while they were inside sleeping.

McDowell County Deputy Jordan Frisbee responded to the house Thursday morning and saw it engulfed in flames. A couple, their 17-year-old daughter and 3-year-old daughter were inside sleeping.

When Frisbee realized this, he started pounded on their windows.

“And I mean he was beating hard and he was screaming, and I was like 'Scott, somebody’s out there’ and I thought someone was trying to come in the house,” Betty Geouge said.

Frisbee was able to get the entire family out of the home safely. Moments later, their car, bike and gas take exploded.

The sheriff said Frisbee is the only reason the family is alive.

“We owe him our life,” Geouge said. “I want to thank him because I have my two girls and my husband in my life and I mean we’ve lost everything that we own, but we have our life.”
