GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Neighbors in Gaston County are worried about a controversial lithium mining project that has its sights set on the county.

On Tuesday, Piedmont Lithium laid out its plans for mining in the area between Dallas and Bessemer City, and county commissioners asked state officials to come hear residents out about the project.

One neighbor says the peace and quiet of her community will be destroyed if the nearly 1 billion dollar mining operation moves in.

“We deserve answers,” Leanne Pembleton said in Tuesday’s meeting.
