MORGANTON, N.C. — Carbon City Road near Jamestown Road in Morganton was shut down Wednesday afternoon because of a waterline break.
The break from the 12-inch pipeline sent water and mud across the highway. It could take about six hours to repair it.

Repair crews said the transition between cold and warm weather causes problems in the water main system this time of year.

Water flowed across the parking lot of Doug Beam’s body shop. He said it isn’t the first time that has happened.

“They’re probably 40 years old,” said Beam, owner of Carbon City Body Shop.
The water department said about a half dozen homes are without water in this area.
