WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — Watauga County commissioners have voted to place "In God We Trust" on the county courthouse.
The United States Motto Action Committee will pay for the display but there is no timeframe set for when it will go up.
Commissioner Billy Kennedy was the only one to vote against it. He told Channel 9 Wednesday morning that while he's a Christian, government needs to be open, efficient and comfortable for everyone who uses it.
In March, Gaston County commissioners approved putting the motto on the front of their courthouse, despite the controversy.
Several other North Carolina counties, including Forsyth and McDowell, have also approved the display.
