CLOVER, S.C. — Arrest warrants released Tuesday shed light on the arrest of 24-year-old Michael Landreth, who resigned as a math teacher at Clover High School after allegations surfaced that he had a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old male student.

The incident happened in September at Landreth's home near Lake Wylie on Valley Forge Drive, according to warrants.

Landreth was charged with sexual battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Landreth is accused of providing alcohol to the teen.

The principal at Clover High School heard about the allegations last week, and reported it to the school district and the school resource officer.

Sheriff's spokesman Trent Faris said the case is still open and investigators want to know if there are other possible victims.

"If they think they may have had some issues and any suspicions, just come talk to us. It won't hurt to come talk to us," Faris said.

He said at this point, Landreth is only charged with the one sexual incident with one student.

Clover parents were shocked at the news.

Kelly Petleski has two children in Clover schools.

"There's no words for it. I don't know what my state of mind would be if it was my kids," she said. "I'm concerned about him (the victim, ) his family. That breaks my heart because they're going to take the worst of it."

Landreth has no criminal record and passed a required background check.

Deputies said he did not coerce the teen into sex. That's why some parents said the only prevention is communication.

"He's sick. He needs to be in jail," said Victor Figueroa, whose child will be in high school next year. "Parents should be talking to their kids constantly about situations like this."

There is already a substitute in place teaching Landreth's classes.

Channel 9 asked school officials if Landreth may have been tutoring students in math at his home. They said they couldn't comment any further on the case.

Landreth was released from jail on bond late Monday. He did not answer the door when Channel Nine tried to speak to him Tuesday.
