Wake Forest student dies days after I-485 crash, officials say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Members of the Wake Forest University community are grieving the death of one of their own.

Jordan Bayer, a junior at Wake Forest University, from Brookline, Massachusetts, died at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte Friday night from injuries he sustained during a traffic accident Thursday night on Interstate 485.

According to officials, Bayer was ejected from his vehicle on I-485 after he lost control and flipped Thursday around 7 p.m.

Bayer was transported to CMC with injuries and went into surgery. He was pronounced brain dead after getting out of surgery.

According to WFU's website, Bayer was majoring in math and business at WFU and was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

The university is offering support and counseling services for the community.
