Wake County judge rejects Jefferson Griffin’s lawsuit to toss votes in NC Supreme Court race

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake County judge on Friday rejected election protests from Republican state Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin in his battle over 60,000 ballots.

Griffin wants to toss out more than 60,000 ballots in the race, which Democrat Allison Riggs leads by over 700 votes.

The decision came after Griffin contested the validity of ballots in the state Supreme Court race. Griffin has filed numerous legal challenges to stop the certification of votes, asking state courts to throw out the votes for various reasons. In part, he argued thousands of voters have invalid registration forms, and that others did not submit a photo identification with their absentee ballots.

Despite the narrow margin, the court found no grounds to uphold Griffin’s challenges, leaving Riggs in the lead.

“Today’s decisions denying Judge Griffin’s challenges of more than 65,000 ballots are a victory for North Carolina voters and the rule of law,” said Justice Allison Riggs following the court’s decision.

Griffin is expected to appeal the decision, continuing the legal battle over the contested ballots. The outcome of the appeal could further impact the final results of the election.
