CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man told police he shot a suspect who tried to rob him in North Charlotte.
Police were called to the parking lot of the Food Lion at the corner of The Plaza and Matheson late Wednesday afternoon.
Demetri Saltz told Channel 9 he had placed his iPhone for sale on an app called “Offer Up” and later agreed to meet the buyer in the parking lot of the Food Lion.
Saltz said when he arrived two men walked up to his truck while two others waited in a nearby car.
He said the men first offered him marijuana in exchange for his phone.
Saltz said he declined and that’s when one suspect pulled out a gun and pointed it at him.
Saltz told Channel 9 he too was armed and opened fire on the man in self-defense.
He said the suspects fled in a car and he called 911.
“I was protecting myself,” said Saltz. “That’s why I do carry a weapon with me at all times, for that reason. I’m lucky to still be here today.”
Investigators said as of now, no one has shown up to a hospital with a gunshot wound.
Workers at the Food Lion said they didn’t hear gun shots and the shooting wasn’t caught on surveillance.
Saltz said the four suspects were riding in a gold colored Toyota or Camry.
No arrests have been made.
