CHARLOTTE — The Uptown Farmers Market kicked off its fourth season this weekend and with the rising price of groceries, it’s important to get as much as you can for your money.
This year, the farmers market is offering some incentives. In some cases, it will give out an extra $100 for families who qualify.
Starting on Saturday, 300 South Davidson Street will transform into an outdoor store filled with vendors.
The Uptown Farmers Market participates in a Double Up Food Bucks through Mecklenburg County. The county matches up to $50 dollars per week for people who use the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
But on the third Saturday of each month, the market will provide another $50 plus that other match from the county. The market’s Triple on the Third program is in response to the COVID-era SNAP benefits ending.
Triple on the Third began Saturday.
Organizers have said extra help like this also supports small businesses.
“We want this place to be a place that is economical, supporting for our farms and local business vendors,” Jan Johnson with the Uptown Farmers Market said.
The market is open from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
