Upcoming Charlotte 49ers football documentary backed by local real estate exec

CHARLOTTE — In 2020, HBO Sports aired a four-part, two-hour documentary called “The Cost of Winning” that chronicled the on-field success and off-field challenges faced at St. Frances Academy, a high school football powerhouse in inner-city Baltimore.

The coach of that team was a wealthy former hedge fund manager named Biff Poggi. The same Biff Poggi who went on to become Jim Harbaugh’s top lieutenant with the Michigan Wolverines in 2021 and 2022 before he was hired as UNC Charlotte’s head football coach.

This week, Poggi, on the eve of his debut season, revealed a few details about an upcoming documentary series coming in September about the Charlotte 49ers football program.

David Ravin, president and CEO of locally based development, construction and property management firm Northwood Ravin, is executive producer of the documentary project, Poggi said.
