UNION COUNTY — A beloved Union County crossing guard will be honored this weekend after 11 years of making sure students get to class safely.
Jerome Sutton has been responsible for getting drivers through a busy school zone at Sun Valley Middle School on Wesley Chapel Road in Indian Trail.
“I just come out here and do my job, and I like to see people smile because I like to smile,” Sutton said.

Town officials will announce that Sunday will be Jerome Sutton Day.
Sutton loves his job and plans to keep doing it until he can't do it anymore.
“And what comes with it, is a blessing from God, you know?” Sutton said. “And I just take that and roll with it.”
The town will honor him at the Christmas parade at 3 p.m.
