UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Dozens of parents attended a Union County meeting Tuesday night to discuss sending students to different schools again.
No decision was made and no questions answered by the school board.
In 2014, the district changed boundary lines forcing many students to go to school several miles away from home
Now, the school board wants to go back to sending students to their neighborhood school, which is the way it was before the change.
“This is an educational demotion,” parent Becky Edwards said. “It is our expectation that our children have every opportunity at its disposal. We want them to attend school within the Weddington cluster. Please give them that opportunity.”
“We're not here because we don't like where you're asking us to go,” parent Joe Luminoso said. “We're here because we love where we're at.”
The school board said it will use parent feedback as it works on a plan, which is expected to be finalized sometime next year.
