MONROE, N.C. — In the era of the Great Resignation, local governments are struggling to hire.
In the wake of the issue, Union County said it has more than 50 job openings in 18 different departments.
To fill those openings, the county announced it will be hosting a job fair Wednesday.
The county said the most urgent positions include lifeguards, public works engineers and nurses to fill shortages at the public health department.
“A lot of times we struggle. We have to compete with other big entities. So we have to compete with the private sector and a lot of them may pay a little bit more money. We really to push the benefits piece and having of those holidays,” Union County Assistant Director of Resources Jennifer Davis said.
The career fair is expected to be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Union County Farmer’s Market on Skyway Drive in Monroe.
