UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Most of the power has been restored after a major outage in Union County affected nearly 24,000 residences as well as numerous schools in the area.
School officials said 15 schools were without power, but no early dismissals were issued.
Those schools affected were:
- Western Union
- Rocky River
- Sardis
- Kensington
- Rea View
- Sandy Ridge
- Waxhaw
- Cuthbertson High
- Cuthbertson Middle
- New Town
- Marvin
- Marvin Ridge High
- Marvin Ridge Middle
- Wesley Chapel
- South Providence

The outage, which was traced back to a Duke substation, is affecting the western and central portions of Union County and a small portion of Mecklenburg County.
