CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It may be Labor Day in Charlotte but many people have no jobs to celebrate.
Teresa Bumpus is a stay at home mother who's trying to get back into the workforce.
She says she'd be glad to work part-time in retail but hasn't been able to find even that kind of job.
"I'm 44 years old. I don't mind working in places like that, but it's hard to find a job nowadays," she said.
Even those with highly skilled backgrounds are having difficulty.
David Prospect was laid off from Microsoft in Charlotte recently.
Now he's applying for unemployment benefits because he hasn't been able to find another full-time job.
"Sometimes I'll get calls, sometimes I don't. I'll go on interviews. I apply online. I'm just trying really hard to find a job," he said.
In Mecklenburg County the unemployment rate has remained stuck at 9.5% for the last 2 months.
