CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Charlotte has decided to take down the Belk Tower for safety concerns.
A recent inspection by the school found the Belk Tower has significant structural issues.
School leaders said the tower's deterioration is natural, but would cost nearly $1 million to restore it.
The school said taking down the tower is the best option.
