CHARLOTTE — UNC Charlotte dedicated a permanent memorial on its campus on Friday, four years after a deadly shooting.

The university will dedicate a permanent memorial called “Constellation Garden” on campus to the victims, as this weekend marks four years since the tragedy.

21-year-old Riley Howell and 19-year-old Reed Parlier were killed in April of 2019. Four other people were hurt but survived.

Part of the ceremony will include an annual wreath-laying that is conducted by police and the public safety department. The school says the memorial is named Constellation Garden because it mimics the stars of the day of the shooting. Near the memorial, there are stone benches with the names of the victims who will forever be remembered.
