ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — State troopers were investigating a fatal crash early Thursday in Alexander County.
The wreck happened around 5 a.m. on Willie McLeod Road, just west of Taylorsville.

Troopers said the driver of a U-Haul pickup truck went off the road and then overcorrected, striking a tree.
Troopers identified the driver as 44-year-old Travis Lamont Bennett. They said he died at the scene.
There were no passengers in the truck.
Officials said Bennett was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. They said there were no signs of impairment.
