CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested and charged two teenagers with murder in the Nov. 13 shooting death of 15-year-old Zavier Ellis, the department said in a news release.

David Burns, 16, and Davione Mackey, 17, were taken into custody Wednesday by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

The shooting happened on Sherington Way, not far from Independence High School.
Neighbors told Channel 9 that Ellis was shot outside a vacant home after a fight. He was taken to the hospital but died two days later.
Neighbors said Ellis knew the shooter, who was part of a group that he had disagreements with before.
Police have not released a motive in the shooting.
