Two killed following early morning shooting in University City, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating after two people were killed in University City early Sunday morning.

Officers responded shortly after 3 a.m. to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 9300 block of Kittansett Drive.

Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim with gunshot wounds. A second gunshot victim was located down the street.

Both were pronounced deceased by MEDIC.

21-year-old Evin Quarles has been identified as a suspect in connection to the first victim, who is a juvenile. He turned himself into the CMPD Law Enforcement Center.

The second victim, who was located in the 9600 block of North Tryon Street, has been identified as 22-year-old Jacori Mitchell.

This investigation is active and ongoing.
