CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A terrifying crash on a busy northwest Charlotte road sent two motorcyclists to the hospital. Now, other motorcyclists in the group are pushing for drivers to be more careful and more aware of motorcyclists.
Authorities said it happened near the intersection of Sunset Road and Northpark Boulevard about 6 p.m.
Riders said a black Lexus pulled out and crossed three lanes of traffic before hitting two of the motorcyclists.
Both were taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center – one with serious injuries and the other with life-threatening injuries.
“A blink of an eye and then crash," fellow rider Timothy Wallace said. "To see your guys go up in the air — one shoe going this way, the bike going the other way, it’s just devastating."
Seddrick Major said crashes like this are nothing new to motorcyclists. He said he has been riding for 16 years and his twin brother lost his arm in a motorcycle crash in 2008
"We like to ride our motorcycles, we don't cause trouble, but y'all got to see us like we see y'all," Major said.
The group is promoting a cookout event at Southside Park on July 20 starting at noon to honor fallen motorcycle riders.
