Two Justice clothing stores robbed within four days, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — After two strikingly similar robberies just four days apart, Charlotte and Matthews detectives are comparing notes.

Two Justice store locations were robbed at gunpoint. As a store geared towards preteens, Justice is not a typical target for armed robberies.

A man came into the Independence Boulevard around 8:45 on Friday night, according to an employee. She said he held a gun to her head and told her to open the safe, which she said she could not do. He then forced her to open the cash registers and ran out the back door with the cash.

A nearly parallel incident occurred at the Blakeney location on Tuesday night.

“They reported that a black male had come in, around 5 feet 10 inches, no age description, wearing all black clothing, red sneakers and sunglasses and had a gun,” Matthews police spokesman Tim Aycock said.

Aycock says that the department is in touch with CMPD detectives who are investigating the Blakeney robbery.

It is too early to determine if the robberies are connected, but there are already many similarities.

“The same exact company store, the same M.O., we just got to get a little more information from them to confirm it,” Aycock said.
