NOW PLAYING ABOVE

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Firefighters from several counties were called to the scene of a two-alarm fire at an Iredell business on Wednesday just before midnight.

The massive fire destroyed Benfield Station Services maintenance shop on Scotts Creek Road, north of Statesville.

The fire chief told Channel 9 that firefighters had to bring a water truck to the scene and it took about an hour to get the blaze under control.

No one was inside, but firefighters believe the fire caused nearly $1 million in damage.

Channel 9 was the first station on the scene and could see the business suffered severe damage. Metal was charred and looked melted in some spots, causing the roof to sag.

Benfield Station Services is a sanitation company that picks up trash from homes and business.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but the fire marshal’s office is investigating.
