CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating after a chase ended in a collision with Cabarrus County deputies early Wednesday.
It started just before 3 a.m. on Highway 49.

Troopers said there were two different crash scenes and both involved Cabarrus County sheriff’s vehicles.
The first was near the Cabarrus County line along Highway 49, north of Interstate 485. The second was on Highway 49 at Blackwelder Road in Harrisburg.
The sheriff’s office told Channel 9 they were called to help troopers chase a stolen car on Interstate 85 from Salisbury. It went into Mecklenburg County so they called it off.
Shortly after, the stolen car was seen on Highway 49, north of I-485. Eventually, they said the driver hit two patrol cars. A deputy then maneuvered their patrol car to stop the driver.

Authorities said the driver got away, but the passenger was arrested.
Deputies said Carmen Mendoza, 19, has been charged with obstruct and delay. Sources told Channel 9 Mendoza has 14 charges in 2020 for breaking and entering a car in Forsyth County.
No injuries were reported.
