HARRISBURG, N.C. — Troopers have identified a teen from Concord who died in a wreck Saturday.

David Lee Fitts, 18, was driving on Rocky River Road just before the Drake Mill Bridge when he entered a curve and ran off the road to the right before crossing back over the center line, going off the road and hitting a tree, according to investigators.

Fitts was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center Northeast where he was pronounced dead.

John Charping, the franchise owner of Chick-Fil-A at Concord Commons, said Fitts worked at the restaurant for more than two years and was scheduled to close the night of his death.

"You work beside somebody day after day after day after day, and you just take for granted that tomorrow they'll be here like they're supposed to be," he said. "This time it didn't happen."

Troopers said speed was a contributing factor in the wreck and said there was no indication drugs or alcohol were involved.

"I'm just thankful I was able to spend some time with him, thankful he was able to be with us for the time that he was, and thankful that he left an imprint on the rest of our team here," Charping told Channel 9.
