KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — A Rowan County family spoke with Channel 9 anchor Susanna Black on Monday about losing their loved one in a crash with a wrong-way driver.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Noah Cameron, 37, was hit and killed by Dyami Wortham, 24, while driving northbound on I-85 near Lane Street early Sunday morning. His family said Noah was on his way home from work at Matthews Medical Center’s pharmacy.

“He literally was driving home from work in his scrubs, just going straight home after working all day, then just gets hit out of nowhere,” said Mandi Cameron, Noah Cameron’s sister-in-law.

“I’m a loving person, but there’s a line. You draw a line somewhere and this is that line,” said Kim Cameron, Noah Cameron’s mother.

Noah Cameron’s family said he will be terribly missed. His sister, Natalie Cameron Poole, explained that her brother had a love for music. He attended North Rowan High School and went on to Catawba College to pursue music but ultimately followed his passion for pharmacy.

He worked at Matthews Medical Center, as well as in Mint Hill.

“To hear his boss talk about how they loved him at his job, I’m proud of him, anyway. But I was so proud that he touched so many people’s lives,” Kim Cameron said.

“He was a people person, so he loved interacting with people, and he was good at it,” Natalie Cameron Poole said. “Some people work in the public and they are grinchy, but he seemed always in a good mood. Everybody knows him and they would just tell me how much they loved him.”

Natalie Cameron Poole said Noah loved his nieces and nephews and regularly carved out time to spend with them. He also loved spending holidays with his family and going on beach trips with them, too.

“It’s tough because he was a very good kid and grown up. They don’t come any better,” Kim Cameron said. “He’s going to be definitely missed, very much missed.”

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Wortham was seriously injured in the crash and was taken into surgery. Troopers said it’s too early to tell if Wortham was intoxicated but said charges are pending.
