YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A large hog had part of a York County road blocked Thursday night in the town of York, the sheriff’s office tweeted.

Onlookers were delayed by the spectacle along Old York Road near Earnest Drive. Two lanes were closed while authorities got a handle on the situation and were able to remove the swine.

Officials with the York County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were at the scene to ensure “Papa Pig” and drivers were safe.

The sheriff’s office later tweeted, “UPDATE: The owners of this ‘road hog’ have been found and are loading him and taking him home. Thank everyone for helping us out with this.”

The York County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol helped safely catch the pig in less than 3 minutes. Papa Pig was then loaded in a horse trailer for its ride back home.

Papa Pig was so large the animal broke the trailer it was being transported in, the owner told authorities.

No injuries were reported.
