The closure at the busy interchange started Saturday night and will continue for at least two months.

Monday will be the first time that weekday commuters can expect the major thoroughfare to no longer be accessible.

The new bridge will be part of the I-77 toll express lanes project.

Some drivers told Channel 9 they have their own plans on how to take on the closures and the impact.

"I've been staying off 77, and I've been using pretty much Statesville Avenue and Beatties Ford Road,” driver Dondhi Burrell said.

“It's just a major adjustment, and I'll just be glad when this wraps up and we can get back to life as we know it,” driver Tameka Washington said.

The outer loop of the Brookshire Freeway ramp to I-77 is closed for two months, causing traffic headaches for many across the Charlotte area.
