Thriving new Charlotte restaurant opening second location amid pandemic

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

CHARLOTTE — Officials say a push to get more people to uptown Charlotte to shop and dine is working.

Part of Tryon Street closes every Friday through Sunday for “Street Eats” -- the event lets more restaurants expand their outdoor dining.

Center City Partners told Channel 9 that while they don’t have exact numbers, attendance has been going up each weekend.

2020 has been tough for most restaurants, although some have beaten the odds and not only survived through the coronavirus pandemic but thrived -- like Lulu’s Maryland Chicken and Seafood, which is actually opening a second location.

>> In the video at the top of this page, anchor Genevieve Curtis spoke to the owners of Lulu’s, who credit the community for their survival.
