Thieves go ‘mailbox fishing’ in several Charlotte area neighborhoods

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Several neighborhoods in the Charlotte area are being hit hard by mailbox thieves, police say.

One victim reported in a neighborhood community forum that they saw someone steal their mail and then check other mailboxes on the same street.

The U.S. Postal Service Inspectors said thieves usually go after personal information, which could include stimulus checks, valuables and birthday cards.
