CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Someone stole more than $17,000 from a south Charlotte church over a span of eight months, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Wedgewood Church off Tyvola Road is well-known in the area and has been repeatedly targeted by vandals.

But now, officers are investigating a different crime against the church.
Police said a thief transferred a total of $17,351 from the church's bank account into a personal account from March of this year until about mid-November.
Investigators said they have a suspect, but have not released any names.
