When officers got to the neighborhood, they found 16-year-old Fabrizio Davalos lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound.
Davalos was taken to the hospital but later died of his injuries.
His mother, Monica Merino, is looking for answers.
“He was doing good in school,” the grieving mother said. “He was normal. He (went) to school and (came) home. His friends have been (the) same friends forever.”
CMPD said the South Meck student had just left a house party and was in an argument before the shooting.
“We came back, and he (asked) me permission to go to a party,” his mother said.
When he was found by police, he was by a running unoccupied car that had also been shot into.
The teen was shot in the back.
“We do know the victim in the case was with a couple of people when they arrived there,” CMPD Capt. Rob Dance said. “We do know there were witnesses outside.
No arrests have been made.
The homeowner of where the shooting happened provided CMPD with surveillance video.
“I just want to know if anyone knows anything,” Merino said. “Call detectives or police --- whatever information.”
This was the second homicide in Charlotte in less than 12 hours over the weekend.
Anti-violence activist Charles Robinson said more needs to be done in the community to stop the killings.
He hopes more community programs in schools are the answer.
“We need to bring more partners into CMS schools to talk to kids -- that way we can prevent (it from happening),” Robinson said.
