Teen taken to hospital by business owner after being shot in Lancaster County, police say

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — The Lancaster Police Department is investigating a shooting that hurt a teenager on Elm Street near the intersection of South Main Street Sunday morning.

Police said the teen was walking in the area to meet up with some friends when he heard someone call his name. The teen said that was when he was shot.

He told police he did not know who shot him, but said the shooter was wearing all-black clothing from head to toe.

Police said the teen was able to run to a printing press nearby, and the owner of the business drove him to the MUSC Health Lancaster Medical Center.

The teen was then transferred to another hospital for treatment of his injuries. He has since been released, according to reports.

Police are asking anyone with information about this shooting to call the Lancaster Police Department at 803-283-1171.

Channel 9′s reporter Tina Terry was able to speak with the owner of the printing press. He said when the teenager stumbled onto his property begging for help, he knew he had to act.

“I couldn’t believe what I seen,” business owner Mark Gardener said. “I just seen him running. Falling down and running.”

Gardener said he watched as the teen struggled to get to safety just after the shooting. He said the teen made his way to the back of his business and started crying out for help.

“He did make it over the fence somehow,” Gardener said. “I guess it was adrenaline. He had to be in shock.”

Neighboring businesses told Channel 9 that they were able to get surveillance video of the incident. They said they hope it can help police make an arrest in this case.
