Taco restaurant already eyeing expansion as it preps for local debut

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tipsy Taco’s first Charlotte location opens April 21 — but the brand is already eyeing growth in the market.

Plans call for as many as seven corporate-owned stores in the Charlotte market over the next five years, says Brian Shelton, one of the founders. The brand is working with veteran Charlotte restaurateur Dennis Thompson and Gerald Pulsinelli on those locations.

“Charlotte has always been a logical choice for us to move to next,” Shelton says. “The goal with Tipsy is to continue to grow into new markets and bring great food, fresh, exciting drinks, and smiles to our customer base.”

Charlotte’s first Tipsy Taco is located at 7708 Rea Road, in the Stonecrest Shopping Center. That roughly 7,000-square-foot space was previously occupied by Cantina 1511, which closed in July 2020.
