ROCK HILL, S.C. — For as long as she can remember, when Jazmin Deyerle would go home to visit her family in California, he would take her out for Mexican-style ice cream.
Now, Deyerle is serving up the ice cream she’s always loved in her own shop in Rock Hill.

Before her father passed away during the holidays in 2020, Deyerle learned that he had considered opening an ice cream shop when he was younger.
“My husband had this brilliant idea, ‘I think we should open up an ice cream shop in honor of your dad,’” Deyerle said.
Her shop, Bajo Cero San Marcos, is a tribute to her family, including her four children, and her culture. She is originally from Mexico.
“I am a Mexican-style ice cream shop,” Deyerle said.
Deyerle says the ice cream is creamier than American ice cream. It’s also made with lots of fresh ingredients and doesn’t contain food coloring or artificial flavoring.
“The culture is just so rich in fruits and strong flavors. In Mexico we really like to mix flavors together, so if it’s salty, tangy, sweet, spicy, all in one bite, the better,” she said.

Deyerle serves a range of sorbet, popsicle and ice cream flavors.
She thinks her parents would be proud of the business she’s built.
“I don’t think either one of them ever had any challenges in life that they weren’t willing to figure out and solve. And they taught us if you tried and failed, you tried,” she said.
Bajo Cero San Marcos is at 2401 Cherry Road in Rock Hill.
