CHARLOTTE — Police and SWAT units worked on Friday morning to arrest a man they think raped a woman in January.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over a house on Glenville Avenue around 10 a.m. and saw a SWAT vehicle and multiple CMPD units in tactical gear. Police say they were involved in a short barricade situation until the suspect surrendered.
Later in the day, CMPD revelealed they were at the house to arrest Julio Gomez-Avila, 34, for allegedly raping a woman in her home.
CMPD says Gomez-Avila broke into an apartment on East W.T. Harris Boulevard and sexually assaulted a woman.
They say he knew the victim, but that he tried to hide his identity during the assault.
Gomez-Avila faces charges for Kidnapping, Forcible Rape, Felony Breaking and Entering and Attempted Armed Robbery.
