CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UPDATE: A man accused in an officer involved shooting in June was booked into the Mecklenburg County jail on July 10. Tyran Hudson faces several charges including robbery with dangerous weapon and assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers shot a wanted man Tuesday morning when he left an apartment with a gun during a SWAT situation, Chief Kerr Putney said.

Officers identified the man as Tyran Keenan Hudson.

Police were trying to serve a warrant for Hudson, who is accused of several armed robberies at Glen Cove apartments in the 6000 block of Pineburr Road.

Authorities brought in a bus to evacuate residents and then came in contact with Hudson.

When Hudson pulled out a gun, a SWAT officer felt threatened and shot him, Putney said.

Hudson went back inside the apartment and more SWAT officers responded to the scene. After a standoff, the SWAT team stormed the apartment and found Hudson injured.

MEDIC took him to Carolinas Medical Center and officials have not released his condition.

The situation shut down part of Thermal Road for several hours.

Detective Joseph Monteleone, a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department SWAT team, has been identified as the officer involved in the shooting.

Monteleone has been employed with the CMPD since Jan. 5, 2000, and is currently assigned to the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

He will be placed on administrative leave and the Internal Affairs Bureau will conduct a separate, parallel investigation, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.

Hudson is suspected in nine business robberies throughout Charlotte, including two Boost Mobile locations, a Metro PCS location, Dollar General, Tool King, City Mart, Kilborne Mart and two Family Dollar stores. Warrants for Hudson have been signed in each case.

Upon Hudson’s release from the hospital he will be served with the warrants and transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives have additionally charged Alex Wragmon, 26, for his involvement in the Dollar General armed robbery that occurred on May 31.

Detectives arrested Wragmon Monday without incident and interviewed him at police headquarters.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

Channel 9 spotted a heavy police presence Monday afternoon in the same area.

CMPD said they were trying to find a wanted suspect when two people ran off, triggering a large search.

CMPD said neither of the two people who ran from them were the person they were looking for and didn't say why they ran.

Police have not said if the two incidents are related.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS.
