LANCASTER, N.C. — A man driving a mini excavator tractor died after being hit by an SUV in Lancaster Thursday evening, officials said.
The crash happened around 6:50 p.m. on Pleasant Plain Road.

Authorities said both people were driving north on the road when the SUV rear-ended the tractor causing it to overturn. The driver of the tractor, 71-year-old Don Rutledge, was thrown from the vehicle.
Rutledge was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The person driving the SUV was also taken to a hospital but will be OK, authorities said.
No other details have been released and there was no word if any charges would be filed.
