Authorities said the pursuit began in Rowan County around 7:30 a.m. and ended with the crash a short time later.

Officials with the Rowan County Sheriff's Office told Channel 9 that the incident started when two men tried to break into a deputy's home Tuesday morning on South Central Avenue in Landis.

The deputy was home at the time and confronted the suspects, which led to the chase.

At some point, officers deployed spike sticks in the road and the chase ended with the wreck on Utah Street.

Meghan Shapley described the crash to Channel 9's Gina Esposito.

"The truck was barreling down South Cannon at like 95 mph, caught air, was tipping on two axels the whole time," Shapley said. "Flipped over the median. Hit the pole, and then pretty much fireworks went off."

The crash took out power lines, which knocked out power to the area. Duke Energy is working to restore power.

The deputy involved in the pursuit took the suspects into custody. Officials said he was not seriously injured.

South Cannon Boulevard was closed, but has since reopened. Power was knocked out to roughly 525 customers in the area.
