The children were 2 and 5 years old.

An off-duty officer in an unmarked police vehicle was on East WT Harris Boulevard at about 5 p.m. Monday when he saw Mickens shoot into the car. The officer’s windshield was also struck by gunfire, but police said he was not an intended target.

No one was injured.

The shooting happened because of an ongoing fight between Mickens and one of the occupants inside the vehicle.

Police located Mickens and as a result of the arrest, they seized a pistol and a rifle.

Mickens was charged with five counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.
